ટંકારીઆ ગામની અત્યારે જે શૈક્ષણિક, સામાજિક, સાંસ્કૃતિક અને ધાર્મિક ભવ્યતા છે તેમાં અગત્યનો ભાગ ભજવનાર બે પાયાની શૈક્ષણિક સંસ્થાઓ છે જેમાં આશરે ૧૮૫૨માં અસ્તિત્વમાં આવેલ ગામની પ્રાથમિક કુમાર શાળા અને બીજા ક્રમે ગામની કન્યાશાળા આવે છે. ૧૯૪૦ના દાયકાનો ઉત્તરાર્ધ અને ૧૯૫૦નો સમગ્ર દાયકો મારી પ્રાથમિક અને માધ્યમિક શિક્ષણ યાત્રા અને જીવન ઘડતરના સુવર્ણ અને સંસ્મરણીય વરસોનો સમયગાળો છે. આ સમયગાળામાં શિક્ષણના વ્યવસાયને વરેલા અને વિદ્યાર્થીઓના શિક્ષણ-સંસ્કાર પાછળ ખૂબ દિલ દઇને મહેનત કરનારા કેટલાક આજીવન યાદ રહી જાય તેવા, મરહૂમ ઇસ્માઇલ મહમદ ઘોડીવાલા ઉર્ફે બાપુ માસ્તર, આદમ માસ્તર બારીવાલા, મુસા માસ્તર ડેલાવાલા, અલી માસ્તર મુકરદમ, મહમદ યુસુફ દેગમાસ્તર તથા ઉમરજી બાપુ વરેડિયાવાળા જેવા શિક્ષકોમાં મરહૂમ દાઉદ ઉમરજી દેડકા માસ્તરનો પણ સમાવેશ થાય છે. આવા શિક્ષકો પાસે ભણવાનું મળ્યું એને હું મારું સદ્દભાગ્ય સમજું છું.
મરહૂમ દાઉદ માસ્તરનો જન્મ ટંકારીઆમાં સને ૧૯૨૭માં થયો હતો. બાલ્યાવસ્થામાં જ માતાની છત્રછાયા ગુમાવી ચૂકયા હોવાથી એમની પરવરીશ તથા દેખરેખની તમામ જવાબદારી એમના કાકા સાહેબ મરહુમ ગુલામ ઇસપ દેડકા તથા તેમનાં પત્નીએ ઉઠાવી હતી. ટંકારીઆ પ્રાથમિક કુમાર શાળામાં ધોરણ ૭ની પરીક્ષા પાસ કરી રાજપીપળાની ટીચર્સ ટ્રેનિંગ કોલેજમાં જોડાઇ પી.ટી.સી.ની પરીક્ષા પાસ કરી અને ૧૯૪૪માં શિક્ષણના વ્યવસાયમાં જોડાઇ ગયા. અનેક શાળાઓમાં ૪૨ વર્ષની એકધારી શૈક્ષણિક સેવાઓ બજાવી ૧૯૮૬માં ટંકારીઆ કુમાર શાળાના આચાર્યપદેથી નિવૃત્ત થયા. તેઓ એક પ્રેરણાદાયી અને તેજસ્વી શિક્ષક હતા. શાળામાં સફેદ સ્વચ્છ પોશાક અને માથા પર કાળી ટોપી પહેરતા. સ્વભાવે સરળ, સાલસ, સંવેદનશીલ અને સ્વાભિમાની પણ હતા.
હું સાતમા ધોરણમાં ભણતો હતો ત્યારે તેઓ મારા વર્ગ શિક્ષક હતા. આખો દિવસ સહેજ પણ થાક કે કંટાળો અનુભવ્યા વગર ખૂબ જ નિષ્ઠાપૂર્વક અમને ગણિત, વિજ્ઞાન, ગુજરાતી, ઇતિહાસ અને ભૂગોળ જેવા વિષયો ભણાવતા. ગુજરાતીમાં કવિ જુગતરામ દવેનું “ચકલી” શિર્ષકવાળું બાળકાવ્ય પોતે ગાઇને બાળકોને ગવડાવતા એ મને હજી યાદ છે. ઉપરાંત અન્ય લોકગીતો અને રાષ્ટ્રગીત અમને મોઢે કરાવતા, ‘લુચ્ચું શિયાળ’, ‘ઘાસની ગંજીનો કૂતરો’ વગેરે જેવી ઇસપની ટૂંકી બોધકથાઓ કહેતા,‘સાચું બોલો છોકરો (હઝ. અબ્દુલ કાદીર જીલાની રહ.)નો કિસ્સો સંભળાવતા અને પાઠય પુસ્તકોમાંથી રામાયણ મહાભારતની કેટલીક રસપ્રદ કથાઓ ભણાવતા. આ બધા પાછળ તેમનો આશય તેમના હાથ નીચે ભણતા વિદ્યાર્થીઓનું સુંદર ચારિત્ર્ય ઘડતર કરવાનો હતો જેની અસર આજ સુધી અમારામાં વરતાય છે.
પ્રાથમિક શાળાના મારા બે પ્રિય ગુરુઓમાંના એક તે મરહૂમ ઇસ્માઇલ માસ્તર ઘોડીવાલા (બાપુ માસ્તર) અને બીજા મરહૂમ દાઉદ દેડકા માસ્તર. આ બેઉ શિક્ષકોને હું આજ સુધી ભૂલી શકતો નથી. વિદ્યાર્થીઓનું જીવન બનાવવા ખૂબ જ દિલ દઇને અથાગ મહેનત કરતા આવા શિક્ષકો ગામને હજી પણ મળતા રહે જેથી શૈક્ષણિક ક્ષેત્રે ગામ હજી પણ વધુને વધુ ચમકે એવી મારી દુઆ છે. અત્યંત લાંબી સેવાને કારણે પિતા, પુત્ર અને પૌત્ર સુધી એમના વિદ્યાર્થીજગતનો વિસ્તાર હતો. કોઇ યુવાન મળે તો તેનું નામ પૂછી તરત “તારા પિતાશ્રી પણ મારી પાસે ભણેલા” એમ કહી તેઓ હરખાતા અને ગૌરવ અનુભવતા. આવા અનુભવી અને સ્નેહાળ શિક્ષકના હાથે અમે ટીપાયા, ઘડાયા અને અમારા જીવનનું સુંદર અને સંસ્કારી ઘડતર થયું એને હું મારું-અમારું અહોભાગ્ય માનું છું.
મારી ટંકારીઆની મુલાકાતો દરમિયાન હું એમના મોટા દીકરા ઇબ્રાહીમ સાથે એમને અચૂક મળવા જતો અને કલાકો સુધી એમની પાસે બેસી એમની વાતો સાંભળતો. યુ.કે.માં વસતાં સગાંસંબંધીઓની ખબર પૂછતા અને ખુશ થતા. લગભગ ૮૩ વર્ષની ઉમર છતાં યાદશક્તિ તો પ્રબળ, પણ મનોબળ સહેજ કમજોર થયું હતું. એક પગનું ફ્રેકચર અને અન્ય તકલીફોને કારણે એમનું સ્વાસ્થ્ય નબળું થઇ ગયું હતું. જે જીવનભર એમની પડખે રહ્યાં હતાં અને એમની બરાબર ચાકરી કરી હતી તે એમનાં ધર્મપત્ની બીબીબેન અલ્લાહની રેહમતમાં પહોંચી જતાં તેઓ એકલતા, મનોમન દુખ અને વિરહવેદના અનુભવતા હતા. એમના નાના પુત્ર યુસુફ (તખલ્લુસ ‘રાહી’ જેમણે આ લેખ લખવા માટે જરૂરી માહિતી પૂરી પાડી છે અને જેમનો હું આભારી છું) એમની બરાબર દેખરેખ રાખતા હોવા છતાં દિન પ્રતિદિન એમની તબિયત વધુને વધુ લથડતી ગઇ અને છેવટે જુમ્આના મુબારક દિવસે તારીખ ૨૨.૦૧.૨૦૦૯ના રોજ તેઓ આ ફાની દુનિયાને છોડી ગયા. ગામની પીર હાશમશાહ(રહ) કબ્રસ્તાનમાં એમને એમનાં જીવનસાથી અને અન્ય કુટુંબીજનોના સાન્નિધ્યમાં દફન કરવામાં આવ્યા છે.
અલ્લાહ પાક અનેકોનું જીવન બનાવનાર આ સંનિષ્ઠ શિક્ષકની બાલ બાલ મગફેરત કરે અને તેમની ઉમદા શૈક્ષણિક સેવાઓને કબુલ કરી તેમને જન્નતુલ ફિરદૌસમાં આલા મુકામ નસીબ ફરમાવે એવી હ્રદયપૂર્વક દુઆ ગુજારી આ શ્રદ્ધાંજલિને સમાપ્ત કરું છું.
માબાપને ભૂલશો નહીં, ઉસ્તાદને પણ ભૂલશો નહીં
અગણિત છે ઉપકાર એમના પણ, એ કદી વિસરશો નહીં

This is an amazing article, written by an amazing author. It is always a pleasure to read about a legend written by a legend. People in those days looked like a hard rock from their outer appearance, but were full of sympathy inside, unlike today’s generation who, in the majority, look sympathetic from the outside, but have hard rock feelings inside.
This article took me 25 years back in time and I still cherish the sweet wise words from my DADA. Now, when he is not with us, wherever he is, may the Almighty be pleased with him and all who passed away who taught us many lessons directly or indirectly on how to be a better person and a better Muslim.
Mama, thanks a lot to you for reminding us about our ancestors in this busy and time ticking life. And, as always, a lot of praise to your GUJARATI language.

The history of our grandparent / great grandparent is amazing. The hardship and struggle they have done to make our lives easy, we owe them a lot, at least dua for them. The doctors, dentists, engineers, teachers, muftis, moulanas etc all we see today purely because of their hard work with the passion.
I still remember, mama was saying that early days in primary school, teachers used to go to houses and convince parents to send their children to school because not enough students attended school.
This is a great way to pass our respect to them. I was sitting with my 7 years old and explaining about her great grandparent, what he used to do and what he was.
